Installation Planning¶
Phase 1: Engine Bay Power Distribution¶
- Install dual battery system with Redarc charger
- Complete "Big 3" electrical upgrade
- Mount Engine Bay SPOD 1 & 2
- Run main power feeds from batteries
- Install input breakers
Phase 2: Interior Power Distribution¶
- Mount Interior SPOD (behind 2nd row)
- Mount Interior Fuse Block (console or 2nd row)
- Install MSD relay block
- Run power feeds from battery/switched power
- Create wire management at "behind 2nd row" junction
Phase 3: Circuit Installation¶
- Install roof penetrations (lights, antennas, power)
- Run door-mounted courtesy lights
- Install seat heater circuits
- Complete console power circuits (inverter, USB, etc.)
- Install communication equipment (ham radios)
Phase 4: Testing & Documentation¶
- Test each circuit individually
- Label all circuits clearly
- Create as-built wiring diagram
- Document any deviations from plan
Safety Notes¶
Critical Safety Requirements¶
- Proper Fusing: Every circuit must have appropriate fuse/breaker protection
- Wire Gauge: Use appropriate wire gauge for amperage and length
- Connections: All connections must be soldered or properly crimped
- Heat Shrink: Protect all connections with adhesive-lined heat shrink
- Grounding: Establish solid ground points (not vehicle body for high-current)
- Labeling: Label every wire at both ends
Fire Prevention¶
- Never exceed 80% of fuse/breaker rating for continuous loads
- Use proper gauge wire (see chart below)
- Ensure all high-current wires avoid heat sources
- Secure all wiring away from moving parts
- Use grommets for all firewall penetrations
Wire Gauge Reference (12V DC)¶
| Amperage | 5-7 ft | 7-10 ft | 10-15 ft | 15-20 ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5A | 18 AWG | 18 AWG | 16 AWG | 14 AWG |
| 10A | 16 AWG | 14 AWG | 12 AWG | 12 AWG |
| 15A | 14 AWG | 12 AWG | 10 AWG | 10 AWG |
| 20A | 12 AWG | 10 AWG | 10 AWG | 8 AWG |
| 30A | 10 AWG | 8 AWG | 6 AWG | 6 AWG |
